On top of the World Lino Print

“On top of the World” – Bumble Bee on a Globe Thistle

This is an original hand made Lino print. It is a limited edition of only 27 and listed here are pictures numbered 5/27 and 13/27 – (look carefully at photos 3 and 4 – image 5/27 has a slightly darker flower than 13/27)

This image was the Essdee Prizewinner in the Ironbridge Fine Arts Printmaking Competition and Exhibition 2023.

Every summer, the globe thistle in our garden is covered in all sorts of bees and the beautiful colours are what struck me initially. I loved watching the bees completely and utterly absorbed in their work and this is the image I wanted to portray – that one moment in time when the flower is literally ‘the whole word’ for the bee.

The purples in the picture are so hard to capture on camera and the photos I have taken just don’t do it justice!
It is printed onto white heavy 270gsm acid free paper using Caligo ink.
Each picture is hand printed on my Gunning etching press and it is a varied edition therefore each print is unique. Each time the ink is mixed and rolled onto the Lino in a painterly manner for each individual print creating unique variations.
The reduction method uses a single piece of Lino to produce a multi coloured print. During this process, the Lino is cut away until effectively destroyed and can therefore the image can never be reprinted.
Each print is numbered, titled and signed.

This image size is approx 270 mm x 280 mm which fits nicely into a 300 mm x 300 mm square mount.
